Elba at the table
Food and wine route

About the Elba at the table itinerary

Elba has a cuisine that speaks two languages: the sea (cacciucco, sburrita, Elba-style octopus, fried red mullet) and the land (stewed wild boar, pappardelle with hare ragù, goat cheeses, schiaccia briaca). And it has two recognised wines: Aleatico Passito DOCG and Elba DOC (whites, reds, Ansonica).

This itinerary combines wineries, harbour restaurants, farms and seasonal food festivals. Take it slowly, one stop a day, perhaps pairing a morning tasting with dinner by the harbour.

The stops

The stops of Elba at the table

  1. Aleatico wineries in Capoliveri

The sunny slopes of Capoliveri are home to the historic wineries of Aleatico Passito DOCG. Visits with tasting cover the late harvest and the pairing with schiaccia briaca. Booking recommended.

  2. Fish restaurants in Marciana Marina

Along the Marciana Marina seafront you will find some of the best fish trattorias on the island. Daily catch from the fishing boats, cacciucco made to order, salt-cod sburrita: the classic Elban seafood dinner.

  3. Farms and extra virgin olive oil in Marciana

The Marciana hinterland keeps centuries-old olive groves that produce Marciana extra virgin olive oil, fruity and slightly peppery. Visits include tastings of oil, strawberry-tree honey (rare, autumnal) and goat cheeses.

  4. Evening country cooking in Capoliveri

At sunset the medieval lanes of Capoliveri fill with trattorias serving country food: stewed wild boar, pappardelle with hare ragù, gurguglione (stewed vegetables). Genuine atmosphere, views over the vineyards.

Opening hours, prices and openings can change with the season: check before you go.
