The hidden beaches
Coves you can only reach by trail or boat

About the Hidden beaches itinerary
Elba has over 150 km of coastline and, alongside the well-known beaches (Fetovaia, Cavoli, Biodola), it keeps dozens of small wild coves reachable only on foot or by sea. No services, no beach clubs: just nature, spectacular snorkelling and silence.
An itinerary for those who don't want "the classic beach tour" but are looking for the real thing. Bring reef shoes, water and a snorkel. No beach is truly "secret", but these are among the least crowded.
The stops of Hidden beaches
-
Sansone & Padulella (Portoferraio)
Two neighbouring coves of white pebbles on the north coast. Clear water, great seabed for snorkelling. Reached by a trail from the Capo d'Enfola road (about 15 minutes on foot). No services.
-
Cotoncello and Le Tombe (Sant'Andrea, Marciana)
On the west side of the island, near the small village of Sant'Andrea, lie Cotoncello and Le Tombe: pebble coves surrounded by pink granite. Emerald water, excellent for snorkelling.
-
Cala Seregola (Rio Marina)
A beach of black mineral sand on the east coast, coloured by hematite and magnetite. Reached by a trail from the Rio Marina road.
-
Cala dei Frati (Capoliveri)
On the south-east coast, reached by a trail from the Monte Calamita road. A gravel beach with deep water, ideal if you are looking for solitude.
Opening hours, prices and openings can change with the season: check before you go.
