Practical tips
Many places (fortresses, museums, Napoleonic villas) require an entrance ticket and have seasonal opening hours: in low season several sites reduce their hours or close, so always check before visiting. For the Napoleonic sites (Villa dei Mulini and Villa di San Martino) a combined ticket is often available.
Villages, sanctuaries and viewpoints are freely accessible all year round. Booking is recommended for the Rio mines and guided tours. Wear comfortable shoes: many old towns are made of alleys and stairways.
