FAQ

Frequently
asked questions

The questions we are asked most often before departure. If yours is not here, the Useful numbers and addresses section has the right contacts to ask.

When is the best time to visit Elba?
It depends on what you're after. For sea and nightlife: July-August. For the best balance of quality/price/crowds: June and September. For trekking and nature: April-May and October. In winter the island is quiet and authentic, but many businesses close.
Is Elba suitable for families with small children?
Yes. The island has many shallow, sandy beaches ideal for children (Biodola, Cavoli, Marina di Campo), plus family-friendly accommodation and educational nature activities.
Do you need a car on the island?
It's not essential: the ATL bus network connects the main towns. However, a car or scooter gives more freedom to reach remote beaches. In high season, public transport or a bike is best for short trips.
Are there options for intolerances or a vegan diet?
Yes: the most common intolerances (gluten, lactose) are well handled by many restaurants, and vegan options are increasingly common in the main centres. We still recommend checking with the venue in advance.
Is there mobile internet coverage on the island?
Yes, the main operators cover the towns and main roads. In some mountain areas or isolated coves coverage can be weak. Hotels and accommodation almost always offer Wi-Fi.
Can you bring pets to Elba?
Yes, including on the ferries (with a surcharge and dedicated areas). Some beaches allow pets: check the seasonal municipal rules. Many accommodations are pet-friendly.
