Frequently asked questions

Must-see Elba: FAQ

How many days do you need to visit the Island of Elba?
To enjoy the best of it you need at least 4-5 days; a week lets you mix beaches, villages, hiking and boat trips at a relaxed pace. Even a long weekend, though, is enough to fall in love with it.
What is the one thing not to miss?
Hard to pick just one: the summit of Monte Capanne, a sunset at Sant'Andrea and a day by boat along the wild coast are the island's authentic heart. If you love history, add Portoferraio's Napoleonic residences.
When is the best time to visit?
May-June and September offer a mild climate, a sea that is already (or still) warm and fewer crowds, ideal for combining beaches and hiking. July and August are the peak of beach life; spring and autumn are perfect for walking.
How do you get around the island?
A car or scooter is the handiest way to reach coves and villages; line buses connect the main towns. Some of the more hidden coves are best reached by boat or on foot along the trails.
Is Elba suitable for families?
Yes: many beaches have shallow, sandy seabeds ideal for children, and attractions such as ElbaBrick in Marina di Campo, the Rio Mining Park and the Monte Capanne cable car make the days out of the water fun too.
