Farm Stays on Elba
A farm stay on Elba Island is not a hotel in the countryside: it is a working farm that takes in guests. In Tuscany the law requires it — agritourism hospitality has to be tied to a farm that is genuinely farming — and you can tell: vineyards, olive groves and vegetable gardens that really produce, and the person who welcomes you has often been out in the fields that morning.

Elba’s farm stays sit outside the beach resorts, in the valleys and on the hills behind the coast: the countryside of Porto Azzurro (Mola, the Monserrato valley), inland Capoliveri, the hills of Portoferraio towards Schiopparello and Scotto, the slopes of Rio and the flanks of Monte Capanne at Marciana. You sleep in rooms or apartments made from old farmhouses, often with a garden and sometimes a pool. The island is small, so the sea is never far: in some cases, on the Gulf of Portoferraio for instance, you can even walk to it. Every listing shows the map position, the facilities actually available and the property’s contacts.
Contact is direct
Phone, e-mail and, where available, WhatsApp reach the farm itself: ask for availability and a rate for your dates, what the accommodation is like and what the farm produces, and deal with no agency commission in between.
One practical tip: ask how far the nearest beach is and whether you can walk there — it varies a lot from farm to farm — and whether the farm serves breakfast or dinner with its own produce. And if you can choose your dates, the grape harvest runs from late August into September and the olives are picked between October and November: ask whether you can see the work up close.
