Sea Activities

The beach with services, stress-free

A beach club is the easiest way to spend a day by the sea: the umbrella is already up and the sunbeds are ready, there are showers and changing cabins, a bar for your morning coffee and often a restaurant, so you can have lunch without leaving the beach. Many have a play area for children, some offer WiFi, canoe or SUP hire and access for people with reduced mobility. It is the right choice for families with small children and for anyone who stays at the beach from morning to sunset.

Umbrella and sunbeds are rented by the day, by the half day (the afternoon usually costs less) or by the week; if you are staying several days in the same area, ask for the same spot for your whole stay. On the large bays beach clubs alternate with stretches of free beach, so you can choose day by day. In July and August the front rows go quickly: call or message the beach club a few days ahead.

Before you sit down, ask: does the spot include an umbrella and two sunbeds, or are extra loungers charged separately? Is the hot shower included? These are the two items that make the difference on the bill at the end of the day.
Where and when

The best-equipped bays

Beach clubs are concentrated on the widest sandy beaches. On the south coast, the bay of Marina di Campo, from the village to La Foce, and the bay of Lacona, between dunes and pine wood; further west, the small bay of Fetovaia. On the east side, the bay of Naregno, below Forte Focardo. In the north, the beaches of Procchio and La Paolina, and at the north-eastern tip the seafront of Cavo. The rocky coves and most of the west coast have no services: there you bring your own umbrella.

Bay of Marina di Campo
A long beach of pale sand in front of the village: beach clubs from the centre to La Foce, with bars and restaurants on the sea.
Bay of Lacona
Fine sand between dunes and pine wood, and shallow water: a comfortable bay for families with small children.
Naregno
A sheltered beach on the east side, facing the gulf of Porto Azzurro below Forte Focardo.
Check the wind before choosing: with scirocco and libeccio the sea is rough on the south coast and calmer in the north (Procchio, La Paolina, Cavo); with the tramontana it is the other way round.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we get most often

Can you rent an umbrella just for the afternoon?
Yes, many beach clubs rent umbrella and sunbeds for half a day too, often at a reduced price. In high season it is worth asking in the morning whether any spots are left.
Do you need to book an umbrella?
In July and August, yes, especially for the front rows and for several days in a row: a phone call or a message to the beach club a few days ahead is enough. In June and September you can usually find a spot without booking.
Are there free beaches near the beach clubs?
Yes. On the large equipped bays, such as Marina di Campo, Lacona and Procchio, beach clubs alternate with stretches of free beach, and many of the island's coves have no services: you can alternate a day at a beach club with a day on a free beach.
