What Scaglieri Beach is like
Scaglieri is a small sandy bay in the Gulf of Biodola, on Elba's north coast, separated from Biodola beach only by a spur of rock. The golden sand is fine and the shallow, sandy seabed slopes gently for many metres, ideal for families with children. A small cluster of pastel-coloured houses overlooks the beach from the rocks nearby.
Getting there
From Portoferraio take the road to Marina di Campo and, after about 6 km, turn right for Biodola; on the way down a signposted turning on the right leads to Scaglieri. In summer there is a shuttle bus run by the Municipality of Portoferraio with the public transport company. There is a paid car park near the beach. The road serving the gulf was hit by a landslide in the winter of 2025-2026 since repaired.
Which wind to go with
It is recommended with the tramontana (north wind), the north-east wind, the east wind and the sirocco. Facing west, it gets sun all day long, and the sunset, with the sun going down between Elba and the island of Capraia, is a good reason to come.
Facilities and tips
Facilities are comprehensive: beach establishments with umbrellas and sunbeds, bars and restaurants, pedal boat, canoe and SUP hire, a windsurfing school and, nearby, a small grocery shop, newsagent and tobacconist. There are also stretches of free beach. Neighbouring Biodola has a diving centre, and from Biodola the Sentiero della Salute leads to the coves of Lamaia and Porticciolo. As the beach is small, arrive early in high season.
