What Straccoligno Beach is like
Straccoligno lies on Capoliveri's east coast, about 3 km from the village, in a small bay enclosed between Capo Perla and the Liscolino point. It is about 220 metres long, with fine sand; the emerald-green water stays shallow a long way out. In summer 2018 loggerhead turtle eggs unexpectedly hatched on the beach.
Getting there
From Capoliveri, follow the paved road signposted for Straccoligno. There are both free and paid car parks near the beach, but in August it is best to arrive early. In summer the council shuttle bus links Straccoligno with Capoliveri and the other beaches on the east side. A few hundred metres along the coast you will find the beaches of Ferrato and Capo Perla.
Which wind to go with
The bay is well sheltered from southerly, south-westerly and westerly winds as well as from northerly ones: with the libeccio (south-west wind), the westerly ponente, the mistral or the tramontana (north wind) it is almost always a good choice. Its weak point is easterly winds, to which it is open.
Facilities and tips
There is a beach club with umbrellas and sunbeds, plus a bar and restaurant; you can rent pedal boats and small boats, and the beach is listed as accessible for people with disabilities. The shallow seabed makes it suitable for children; along the rocks at the sides of the bay you can snorkel and, with the right wind, go sailing or windsurfing. Just to the south is Calanova beach, with two islets offshore.
