Restaurant Publius is located in Poggio, a charming village on the Island of Elba, in a panoramic position overlooking Marciana Marina and the Tuscan coast. Founded in 1970 by Publio Fontana, the restaurant is now managed with passion by his children Emanuele and Simonetta, continuing the family tradition.
Publius offers a spacious indoor hall and a covered veranda with sea view, ideal for romantic dinners or special events. On the upper floor, there is an open-air panoramic terrace perfect for private receptions. The atmosphere is rustic yet refined, designed to ensure a welcoming and elegant dining experience.
The menu combines traditional Tuscan dishes with modern creativity, thanks to the experience of chef Carmelo di Tavi, who has been leading the kitchen for over 15 years. The dishes follow seasonal rhythms and highlight local flavors such as mushrooms, truffles, and chestnuts, as well as the freshest Elban seafood.
The culinary offer is centered around quality meat and fresh fish. Guests can choose from Chianina beef, wild boar, bison, and Cinta Senese pork, served on a special soapstone grill that retains the ideal cooking temperature for over 45 minutes, allowing you to enjoy the view and conversation without haste. The fish is local, including sea bass, tuna, and amberjack, caught off the coast of Elba.
All dishes are made with fresh and selected ingredients: pasta and desserts are homemade. There is also a daily menu focused on fresh fish and a dedicated gluten-free menu for coeliacs, offering high-quality alternatives for everyone.
The kitchen uses up to ten different oils depending on the dish. Emanuele, a certified sommelier, curates a wine list with over 350 labels, including local Elban wines, Italian vintages, and Champagne. A visit to the historic wine cellar is a must, featuring Publio’s private collection with rare bottles such as every vintage of Sassicaia and Tignanello.

We present you our new panoramic outdoor terrace where lunch is served. In the restaurant you will be served dinner as always on the historic porch.
In the evening the terrace will turn into a Wine Bar with wine glasses accompanied by our fried and cold dishes.
Of course, there is also a wide selection of national, national spirits and a worthy collection of grappa, mainly Venetian and Trentino. The elegance of the environment and the quality of the service, the kind of dishes and the paper of the wines proposed, however, must not deceive, in relation to another important aspect, the cost; Well, prices are affordable and competitive. Publius organizes tastings on the occasion of presentations of new products of wineries and themed themes are created, specially for special events; for example, in the period of chestnuts, a menu based exclusively and exclusively of chestnuts is prepared.
In the room, Emanuele and Simonetta are always hospitable, discreet and reserved, reflecting the atmosphere of the room; it should not be surprising if some lucky guests have found, at the table next to them, characters (evidently eager not only for excellent cooking but also for privacy) like singer Rod Stewart, Former Formula One riders Hakkinen and Alesi, family members Trussardi or His Royal Highness King Juan Carlos of Spain. We would have liked to be present on the day when the Queen Rania of Jordan sat at a table in His Majesty's Room; simple, but beautiful and elegant, like the kitchen of the Publius restaurant.
