On Monday 26 November at 5.00 p.m. the collaboration between the Municipal Library of Marina di Campo and the Italian Academy of Cuisine resumes: together with chef Alvaro Claudi it will present a new series of meetings.
This year the meetings will revolve around the rediscovery of the ancient culinary traditions of western Elba. It will be an opportunity for field research, with guests and privileged witnesses of a history and a culture we are at risk of losing. Thanks to the commitment of the Elban delegation of the Italian Academy of Cuisine and under the expert guidance of maestro Alvaro Claudi, we shall try to bring back to memory forgotten dishes (perhaps tasting them!!!), stories unknown to most, customs now long gone… and then keep them alive in the kitchen!
At a time when travellers are looking for experiences and emotions tied to their holiday, food and wine are perhaps the most effective element of “contact”. For this reason more and more figures, from the Italian Academy of Cuisine to the many chefs on Elba, are working to recover local traditions and ancient flavours. Today this rediscovery starts not only from written documentation, but also from the stories of the island's “grandmothers” and “elderly ladies”, who besides knowing how to cook also tell the stories connected with the dishes and the customs of decades past.
It all begins on Monday the 26th at the Library with: Christmas dishes on the table of long ago.
