HOLIDAY VIBES IN MARINA DI CAMPO, ELBA
Elba is one of the most beautiful islands in Italy. The wonderful views, the hidden beaches and the crystal-clear waters will turn your holiday into a real dream. Besides its natural beauty, the island offers charming mountain villages and lively fishing villages. Guided by #myelbatour15, Sophie had the chance to visit part of the island. So here are our vibrant impressions of a holiday here.
The invitation came from Elbamylove.com - a new portal that gathers all the beauty of Elba in one place. The website is the idea of the irrepressible duo Federica and Andrea, whose contagious enthusiasm makes them the right ambassadors for this beautiful island. Federica comes from Milan but has lived for over twenty years in Marina di Campo. She has built up great experience with a portal about Marina-di-Campo and at the same time runs a shop near the beach with her husband Marco. Andrea is a newcomer to the island. He too comes from Milan and, like many other residents, has lost his heart to the Island of Elba.
Elba is easy to reach by ferry. Thanks to a pleasant crossing with the ferry company Blu Navy, Sophie arrived in Portoferraio with the other bloggers. A nice detail: the ship originally came from the Netherlands, then served in Sicily and then, together with its Sicilian crew, landed on Elba. Since Blu Navy is the ferry company of the Elban people, residents can travel there and back for just € 9.99. Very handy if you have to study or go back and forth for appointments on the mainland.
Federica gave the bloggers a warm welcome at the port of Portoferraio and took them on to Marina di Campo. By car it takes about half an hour. Unfortunately public transport on Elba is not great, so it is better to get around with your own car or, if need be, a hire car.
During the journey, Federica told us that Marina di Campo, before becoming one of the most picturesque resorts on Elba, was a modest settlement of fishermen and farmers. In the 1950s it began to grow thanks to increasing tourism. Today a visit to Marina di Campo is an absolute must during your holiday, for the beach and for evening shopping in the welcoming town centre, where you can stroll wonderfully among the islanders.
Sophie stayed at the Hotel Barcarola 2, a comfortable hotel just a five-minute walk from both the sea and the centre. The sandy beach of Marina di Campo is two kilometres long and has plenty of public beach space as well as a number of Bagni (beach clubs with bars), such as Da Sergio and Paglicce Beach. At Da Sergio you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee by the sea, while Paglicce Beach enjoys a dreamlike setting for a delicious dinner. The dishes, mainly fish-based, are prepared by Jordi Franquesa Guiteras, one of the best-known chefs in Barcelona.
How to get guaranteed good vibes out of your holiday?
Start the evening with a delicious aperitif at Bar Da Mario on the harbour. This former fish shop is today the meeting point of the local fishermen, and it offers a splendid view of the beach. Stroll through the centre and then walk on for an elegant dinner at the Hotel Montecristo, where you will be amazed by the chef's culinary art. End the evening with a sea view once more...., this time at Paglicce Beach.
Tonight the place you absolutely have to go is Marina di Campo. Enjoy your holiday!
