This third issue of ELBAnewsLETTER opens with plenty of good news about the airport and its flights.
First of all, we can announce that the contract with SkyWork Airlines has been signed to strengthen connections with Switzerland for the coming summer season.
SKYWORK, already operating with its 31-seat Dornier 328 on the BERN (CH) – ELBA route, has in fact agreed to cover the ZURICH connection as well from summer 2017, previously operated by Intersky and no longer running in 2016. The loss of that carrier meant roughly 6,000 fewer overnight stays, and from a catchment area such as Switzerland, which in 2016 ranked as the leading foreign market, overtaking even Germany.
In 2017 the direct ELBA-ZURICH connection will therefore be restored with 1 return flight at the weekend. The financial commitment was substantial and was made possible thanks also to the direct involvement of the Associazione Albergatori, which has invested so much in recent years to increase arrivals from Switzerland and from Zurich in particular.
A ticket pre-sale project for hoteliers has therefore been launched, making the Skywork flight bookable only when combined with a stay at the island's hotels. In this way the airline is protected in covering its costs and the accommodation businesses are encouraged to create flight+stay packages.
