ELBAnewsLETTER - Coming to Elba by plane...

One of the quickest ways to reach the Island of Elba from abroad and from some Italian cities is by air, which is certainly one of the means of developing contacts with new markets in the future. The airport and everything concerning it is therefore a subject close to everyone's heart, both for a better link between residents and the mainland and Europe, and as a potential new channel for visitors from medium- and long-haul countries. For this reason the Hoteliers Association is closely following how matters concerning it develop. In particular with regard to the plans to extend the runway: now that the necessary clearances and authorisations have been obtained from the Region of Tuscany, and given the availability of funds from Brussels, we are waiting for the final resolution from the Municipality of Campo nell'Elba so that the next steps can be taken.

Unfortunately, with the closure of the airline Intersky, in 2016 a link with Switzerland - always an excellent market for our operators - is being significantly lost, both in low and in high season. To try to fill this gap we are working on two fronts: on the one hand helping the old airline to try to resume operations, and on the other trying, with the help of Silver Air, to cover some of the routes that can support the flow of visitors to the island.

Over the coming days a meeting is planned at the Region of Tuscany, attended by Minister Del Rio and by the President of the Region Sergio Rossi, on the future of transport to Elba. Mr De Ferrari will also attend on behalf of the Hoteliers Association, together with other island authorities, with a number of important requests.
