What Padulella Beach is like
Padulella is one of Portoferraio's white beaches, on the north coast about 2 km from the centre, right next to the cliff of Capo Bianco. About 170 metres long, it is made of smooth white pebbles and gravel; the pale bottom tints the water from emerald green to turquoise. Like Le Ghiaie and Capo Bianco, it lies within the biological protection zone set up in 1971, where fishing is banned.
Getting there
There are two footpaths. The first starts near Le Ghiaie: a walk of about 300 metres, closed to cars by a barrier, with no parking spaces. The second comes from the Capo Bianco side: leave the car in the large paid car park and walk down between the villas in about five minutes. After the damage caused by the February 2025 cloudburst, the municipality cleaned and levelled the beach at the start of the 2026 season.
Which wind to go with
The beach is sheltered from southerly winds: with sirocco, southerly breezes and libeccio (south-west wind) the sea is calm and clear. With mistral, tramontana (north wind) and grecale it is exposed.
Facilities and tips
Alongside the free sections there is a lido with umbrellas, sunbeds and pedalos, plus a bar, restaurant, toilets and sailing and surf schools. Thanks to the 1971 protection, snorkelling is rich just a few metres from the shore. The beach is fairly busy, families included. Don't linger under the cliff: in February 2025 a large landslide broke away from the Capo Bianco rock face.
