What Morcone Beach is like
Morcone lies on the south coast of the Monte Calamita promontory, about 3 km below Capoliveri. It is a bay of roughly 250 metres of sand and fine shingle, sheltered by Punta Morcone, with deep blue water and a seabed that slopes gradually. It faces south-west, so in the evening the sun sets over the sea. In October 2021 around eighty loggerhead turtle hatchlings unexpectedly emerged on this beach.
Getting there
From Capoliveri, follow the signs for Morcone-Innamorata; after about 2.2 km a right turn takes you straight to the beach. The car park behind it is small and paid, and in August it fills up early. In summer the Capoliveri council runs a shuttle bus linking the village with Morcone and the other beaches on this side.
Which wind to go with
It is sheltered from northerly winds: with the tramontana (north wind), the grecale (north-east wind) and the mistral the sea here is usually calm. Sources disagree about easterly winds, so on those days check conditions before you set off.
Facilities and tips
There are beach clubs with umbrellas and sunbeds, bars and restaurants, rentals for canoes, pedal boats and SUP boards, diving centres and water sports schools; accessible toilets, a beach wheelchair for getting into the water and a defibrillator are also reported. A short stretch of coast separates it from Pareti beach. With a rented boat you can reach the coves of the Costa dei Gabbiani that are only accessible from the sea.
