What Zuccale Beach is like
Zuccale lies on Elba's south coast, at the eastern end of the Golfo Stella, just west of Capoliveri, in a bay between two small headlands. It borders Barabarca beach and is about 180 metres long, with coarse golden sand broken in the middle by a few rocks. The water is very clear and you can see the rock strata on the seabed; from the shore you look out to Capo Stella and Monte Capanne.
Getting there
On the road climbing from Mola towards Capoliveri, about a kilometre before the village, turn right at the junction with the small chapel and follow the Barabarca-Zuccale signs. The road ends at two car parks: a smaller one towards Barabarca and a larger paid one above the beach. From there a path with about seventy steps leads down to the sand. In summer the public shuttle bus also stops here. In April 2026 the road surface to Zuccale and Barabarca was restored.
Which wind to go with
Capo Stella shelters it from northerly winds: with the tramontana (north wind), the grecale (north-east wind) and the levante (east wind) the sea is usually calm. It is exposed to southerly and south-westerly winds such as the libeccio.
Facilities and tips
There is a beach club with umbrellas and sunbeds, a bar, canoe, pedal boat and small boat rentals, a boat lane and free stretches of sand. The seabed around the rocks is rich in marine life and excellent for snorkelling. Bear the steps in mind with small children.
