As every year, the Hoteliers' Association is very active, attending trade fairs and events in Italy and abroad that can attract new guests for the coming seasons.

"This is an activity that requires a great deal of commitment and work – explains Vice-President Alessandro Gentini – but there is no denying that being physically present at these events regularly brings new contacts and opens up new opportunities. In some markets it is important to be there to consolidate arrivals (as in Switzerland or Germany), while in others it serves to stimulate new flows (France and Poland)."

Here are the main events in October:

6-7 October: BTS 2017 Borsa del Turismo Sportivo (Montecatini). BTS is the result of 25 years of experience in the sector: a qualified and representative meeting point between more than 3,000 buyers and 20,000 sellers, to develop interesting business and training opportunities. As it is held in Tuscany, many of the exhibitors are local, while visitors come from many different places. BTS is in fact an ideal event for those who organise sporting events, create holiday packages that include sports and outdoor tourism, handle flows of tourists interested in spas and wellness, or are looking for new suppliers. In this context, the Hoteliers' Association presents the Island of Elba as an ideal destination for lovers of nature and sport: trekking, mountain biking, diving and sailing, because the offer covers land and sea, sport and fun together, in a setting of extraordinary beauty.

8-9 October: BUY TUSCANY (Florence). This event, linked to the promotion of Tuscany in foreign markets, is an excellent B2B opportunity to present the Island of Elba and its businesses to tour operators and agencies from all over the world. In two days the Hoteliers' Association held 40 meetings with potential tourism partners from Russia, Ukraine and many other countries which – being further away – need an airport connection.

12-14 October: TTG Incontri Rimini: this is the most important event in Italy for the tourism sector, highly innovative and reserved exclusively for trade professionals. It is the fair with the largest number of countries represented: over 130 destinations, 1,500 international buyers and more than 70,000 visitors. For Italian travel intermediaries it is the only chance to see, all at once, the most important tourism offer from around the world: TTG Incontri is the fair with the highest number of travel agencies attending. It is an international marketplace: business runs across the board, because the entire tourism supply chain is present at the fair. It is entirely business to business and is organised to guarantee every participant the maximum return on their investment.

25-29 October: Salone internazionale svizzero delle vacanze (Swiss International Holiday Fair), LUGANO (SWITZERLAND): this year too, Switzerland confirmed itself as one of the most significant foreign source markets for our tourism. With around 250,000 overnight stays, it is proportionally our most important foreign market. "For this reason it needs to be 'cultivated' in a special way – Vice-President Alessandro Gentini tells us. – Our presence focused on the territory, its food and also music. In Switzerland we are also due to attend the fairs in St. Gallen and Zurich."
