Farms
in Porto Azzurro

Elba is an agricultural island first and a tourist destination second: wineries, olive groves, apiaries and educational farms open to visitors. Buying from the producer is the most authentic way to take the island home.

Wine
estates

The Consorzio di Tutela Vini Elba DOC unites 16 active wineries on the island. They produce Elba DOC (whites, reds, rosés) and Aleatico Passito DOCG, the most distinctive sweet wine of the Tuscan Archipelago. All of them offer tastings by appointment and direct sales. Below three representative examples.

Arrighi
Porto Azzurro
Wine estate

Centenary winery in Porto Azzurro (founded 1920), on the Monte area. Since 2011 it ages wines in terracotta amphorae, a technique already used by the Romans 2000 years ago. Also produces EVO oil. Guided 2 km trekking through historic vineyards.

Sapereta
Porto Azzurro
Wine estate

15-hectare estate owned by the Sapere family, active since the early 1900s. Located in Mola between Porto Azzurro and Capoliveri. Produces DOC wines, EVO oil, honey, jams and Aleatico grappa. Includes farm stay and restaurant.

Olive groves and
oil producers

Elba Island extra virgin olive oil falls under the Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil IGP designation (Protected Geographical Indication). The main cultivars grown on the island are Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo and Pendolino, with often centuries-old olive trees planted on dry-stone terraces facing the sea.

The main production areas are the Marina di Campo plain, the Lacona area, Portoferraio (Schiopparello) and Bagnaia. Two private mills work Elba olives on the island: Podere Arduini in Mola (Capoliveri) and Costagli / Hotel La Feluca in Bagnaia (Rio).

Only certified IGP: on Elba the only estate certified by the Tuscan EVO Oil IGP Consortium is Azienda Agricola Due Palme in Schiopparello (source: Il Tirreno, 2014 and 2016).
La Sabatinaccia
Porto Azzurro
Olive grove / Mill

Estate of Gianluigi Rossi in Localita Valdana in Porto Azzurro. Certified organic extra virgin olive oil + IGP Toscano, helichrysum essential oil and Elba Bianco DOC wine. Strictly organic production from soil to bottle.

These wineries also produce EVO oil: Cantina Mazzarri (Capoliveri/Lacona), Sapereta (Porto Azzurro/Mola), Arrighi (Porto Azzurro), Tenuta La Chiusa (Portoferraio/Magazzini). They are listed in the Wine estates section.

Apiaries and
honey producers

Elba Island honey is recognised as a Traditional Agricultural Food Product (PAT) and is part of the gastronomic identity of the Tuscan Archipelago. The five most distinctive types are rosemary, thistle, heather, chestnut and strawberry tree (corbezzolo) — the last one bitter, rare, produced only in autumn.

Montalcino Award: the rosemary honey of Apicoltura Ballini was ranked as Best Honey in Italy at the Montalcino national contest, one of the most prestigious recognitions in Italian beekeeping.

Tuscan Archipelago National Park brand: on Elba three estates are awarded the Park brand for honey production, a guarantee that processing takes place within the protected areas of the Tuscan Archipelago. Among them, the Apicoltura Ballini mentioned above.

Sustainable farming

Organic estates
and agritourisms

On Elba certified organic production is growing: organic EVO oil, agritourisms working the land with organic methods, rural hospitality in olive groves and estates. Below the estates that combine organic production + hospitality, verified from public sources.

La Sabatinaccia

Organic / Agritourism

Estate of Gianluigi Rossi in Localita Valdana in Porto Azzurro. Certified organic extra virgin olive oil + IGP Toscano, helichrysum essential oil and Elba Bianco DOC wine. Strictly organic production from soil to bottle.

Experiencing agriculture

Agricultural
experiences on the island

Elba's farms are not only places of production: they are experiences. From the harvest with the winemakers to picking olives in October, from a visit to the apiary to a tasting of the just-pressed oil. Experiences are seasonal and places often limited: booking in advance is always recommended.

Aleatico harvest
September – October
Manual grape picking with the winemakers in Elba wineries. Explanation of the vine's vegetative cycle, selection of ripe clusters, harvesting with shears and crates. Many estates then offer the winemaker's lunch and a tasting of the previous vintage in the cellar.
Availability and rates to be agreed directly with the estate.
Olive harvest
October – November
Traditional picking with rakes and nets in the olive groves of Marciana, Schiopparello, Lacona or Bagnaia. The olives are milled the same day at local mills: tasting the just-pressed oil — warm and green — is an unforgettable sensory experience.
Availability and rates to be agreed directly with the estate.
Apiary visit
April – September
Guided tour to the apiary with protective suit. Observe the colony cycle, the queen, larva development stages, honey extraction from the combs. An activity particularly suited to families and schools: children learn by directly observing the bees at work.
Availability and rates to be agreed directly with the estate.
New oil tasting
November – March
In the months after harvest, Elba's private olive mills (Arduini in Mola, La Feluca in Bagnaia) and oil producers open for guided tastings of the new oil. This is the moment to understand the differences between cultivars (Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo, Pendolino) and to take home unfiltered, cloudy and fragrant oil.
Availability and rates to be agreed directly with the estate.
Frequently asked questions

Frequently
asked questions

Everything you need to know before visiting an Elba farm.

Can I buy oil and honey directly from producers?
Yes, direct sales at the farm are standard practice for Elba EVO oil, honey and wines. For the private olive mills (Arduini, La Feluca) sales typically run from November to March, peaking with the new oil in November. For honey the period depends on the harvest: corbezzolo runs out every year by year-end. It is always advised to call ahead to check availability and opening hours.
Is Elba oil IGP or DOP?
Elba extra virgin oil falls under the Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil IGP designation (Protected Geographical Indication), like all qualified Tuscan oil. The only Elba estate certified IGP by the Consortium is Azienda Agricola Due Palme in Schiopparello (Portoferraio). Other producers market high-quality EVO oil without IGP certification.
Are the farms open all year round?
It depends on the type of production. Mills and oil producers work mainly from October to March (harvest + oil campaign). Apiaries mostly open for visits in spring-summer, but sell honey all year round. Agritourisms tend to open from April to October. Always check by contacting the estate directly.
What does "Tuscan Archipelago National Park brand" mean?
It is an official recognition awarded by the Park Authority to estates producing within the protected territory and respecting specific environmental sustainability and quality criteria. On Elba it has been granted to three honey estates and one oil estate. It guarantees traceability and a close link to the territory.
Editorial selection based on publicly verifiable sources (Tuscan Archipelago National Park, Tuscan EVO Oil IGP Consortium, Il Tirreno, official estate websites). The estates listed are not ElbaMyLove partners: for information, bookings, prices and availability please contact the estate directly through the official channels. The experiences described are typical agricultural activities; actual conditions vary by estate and season.
