What Seccheto Beach is like
Seccheto is a small south-facing bay on the south-western coast of Elba, about 6 km from Marina di Campo, halfway between Cavoli and Fetovaia. The beach is made of pale granite sand mixed with gravel and pebbles, framed by smooth granite rocks; behind it, Monte Capanne shelters it from the north. The water shifts from transparent to light blue and deep blue.
Getting there
Follow provincial road 25 west from Marina di Campo: Seccheto comes just after Cavoli. The village can also be reached by bus. Parking is limited: there are free spaces along the provincial road, two small free car parks on the Cavoli side before the village centre and a paid car park a little further on.
Which wind to go with
The sea is usually calm with the tramontana (north wind), the grecale (north-east wind), the west wind and the mistral.
Facilities and tips
There is a beach club with a lifeguard, bar, showers and toilets, rental of umbrellas, sunbeds and pedal boats, and a diving centre; the rest of the beach is free. On the left are the granite slabs of Le Conche, reached by a footpath; about a kilometre to the west lie Le Piscine, natural pools in the granite reached by short paths from the road. You can snorkel along the rocks. On the surrounding hills you can still see granite columns and blocks abandoned by the ancient quarries, worked since Roman times; one theory even traces the name Seccheto to the Latin secatum, meaning cut.
