What Nisporto Beach is like
Nisporto opens onto Elba's north-east coast, between Bagnaia and Cavo, in a horseshoe-shaped bay framed by two headlands. The beach is about 200 to 220 metres long and around 20 metres wide, and the shore is made of colourful pebbles mixed with gravel and fine sand. On the left the seabed is stony, while in the middle the water stays shallow for quite a way out, which is handy for families.
Getting there
Nisporto is reached along scenic roads with plenty of bends: from Bagnaia you follow the Rio Elba-Nisporto road for about 5 km, while from Rio nell'Elba the drive is about 6.4 km. There is free parking behind the beach. In February and December 2025 heavy storms caused landslides and temporary road closures in the area, which have since reopened.
Which wind to go with
The recommended winds are the levante (east wind) and the sirocco: in these conditions the sea in the bay is clean, with clear, crystalline water.
Facilities and tips
The beach is partly equipped, with umbrella and lounger rental, pedalos and small boats for hire, bars and restaurants, moorings for small boats and a diving centre. The rocks on either side are good for snorkelling. On the left-hand side stand the remains of an old kiln built of brick and stone, once used to turn limestone into building material and now listed as a site of historic and artistic interest. Rubber shoes are useful on the stony part of the seabed.
