What Marina di Campo Beach is like
Marina di Campo beach is the longest on Elba: about 1.4 km of fine golden sand running from the harbour to the La Foce area, at the head of the wide gulf on the south coast. The sand was formed over time by the crumbling of the granite of Monte Capanne. The shallow seabed slopes very gradually, so much so that in places you can still stand 50 metres from the shore. Facing south, it gets sun all day long.
Getting there
The beach is the village's seafront, which you can reach by car or by local bus; from the centre it is just a short walk. There are plenty of car parks in the village, both free and paid. Elba's airport is about 2 km away, in the hamlet of La Pila.
Which wind to go with
The gulf stays calm with the tramontana (north wind), the west wind and the mistral. The La Foce area, at the end furthest from the harbour, is instead exposed to south-easterly winds.
Facilities and tips
The seafront has every facility: beach clubs alternating with free stretches of sand, bars and restaurants, hot showers, a children's play area, rental of pedal boats, boats, canoes and SUPs, and sailing, windsurfing and diving schools. The beach is accessible to people with disabilities. In 2017 a loggerhead turtle laid her eggs right on this beach. For a quieter swim, a footpath from the far end of the village leads in 15-20 minutes to the coves of Galenzana and Salandro.
