What La Fenicia Beach is like
La Fenicia is the beach that closes off the western end of the Marciana Marina seafront, to the left of the Torre della Marina, on Elba's north coast. The pier and Punta del Nasuto shelter it on either side; the shore is made of large, almost round white pebbles polished by the sea, which give the water a colour somewhere between green and blue. The seabed is clear and full of fish, with big rocks to dive from into deep blue water.
Getting there
From the centre of Marciana Marina, walk or cycle the promenade to its end: there are two entrances, one where the avenue finishes and the other leading to the far side of the beach and to nearby La Fenicetta. If you come by car, there is paid parking on the waterfront and free spaces about 200 metres inland. The entrance at the end of the road also makes access easier for people with reduced mobility.
Which wind to go with
Local guides recommend it with sirocco, southerly winds and libeccio (south-west wind), when the island's north coast lies in the lee and the sea in front of the village stays calm.
Facilities and tips
It is a busy beach with a full range of services: beach clubs with umbrellas, sunbeds and changing cabins, hot showers, a restaurant and a bar, water-sports hire and, alongside, free public stretches. Snorkelling along the rocks is rewarding thanks to the clear water. A short concrete walkway leads to La Fenicetta. Water shoes help on the pebbles.
