Elba Castle par excellence and the only fortress ever conquered in the history of the island, Volterraio, appears from afar as a natural extension of the red jasper rocks on which it is embedded. With its 394 meters of altitude, the fortress offers an extraordinary view of Portoferraio, the western Elba, on clear days in the mountains of Corsica. The National Park has restored the structure and is making the trail passable.
Meeting at 9.30 Info Park in Portoferraio, or in Rio Nell'Elba 9.45 am Casa del Parco. Transfer by shuttle bus to the beginning of the trail.
