Real distances, not as the crow flies
Elba is only 27 km wide and 18 km tall, but the roads are winding. Going from one corner to the other is never a straight line. Here is the summary table of road distances and average times (car, normal traffic, outside summer rush hour).

When times double
From Easter to September, and especially in August between 9-11 am and 5-7 pm, times can double. The road to Monte Capanne, the Costa del Sole and the climb to Marciana often get jammed. Plan your moves at lunchtime (12-3) or evening (after 8 pm).
By bus
CTT Nord runs the lines. Times are 30-50% longer than by car as buses stop in every village. Current schedules and fares at ctt-nord.it.
