ELBAnewsLETTER - REACHING ELBA.... BY FERRY

Certainly the primary means, the classic one, to reach the Island of Elba is the ferry. The transport policy for the Hotel Association has always been a touchy subject, because it is strongly linked and related to the dynamics of the host's tourist staying.
Much time has passed since they asked over 380 euro to a family to come to Elba by ferry. It was a real shock to the many tourists in the first decade of the new millennium, which made us lose more than 400,000 per year and almost 3,000,000 between 2006 and 2010. The slow recovery took place when it was possible to create (with the rulings of the competition from us involved) a minimal competition on routes with the advent of BluNavy and Corsica Ferries.
The national reform of the ports will be completed in December and remains open the question of slot allocation for next summer and winter (moorings) for the ferries of the companies operating on the line between Piombino-Portoferraio. For this reason the Port Authority reform is a vital topic for Elba and as such we follow it with particular attention.
It's clear that thanks to the presence of different companies, which eventually operate in competition with one another, ferries' prices to Elba in recent years have dropped slightly. The association will still engage more to ensure that it does not go back. As in all sectors, competition is good ... possibly even in winter.
According to tour operators, the BluNavy company has extended its races of the season 2016 with the ship "Acciarello" on the Piombino-Portoferraio line until 16th October: the highly competitive special rates to guests of Elba accommodation belonging to the Association hoteliers will be guaranteed, therefore, until that date.
All this waiting to realize a much larger project shared by Blu Navy and the Association of Hoteliers: the introduction of a possible second ship on the line to Elba, as well as the will to remain active throughout the year.
