'4 Hotel' lands on the Island of Elba: Bruno Barbieri explores Elban hospitality

The Island of Elba, one of the gems of the Tyrrhenian Sea, is getting ready to welcome the cameras of the well-known television programme "4 Hotel", hosted by Michelin-starred chef Bruno Barbieri. The popular Sky Original show, which explores the very best of Italian hospitality, will put the spotlight on some of the island’s most exclusive properties, in a journey that combines competition and quality.

Elba takes centre stage on "4 Hotel"

The filming of "4 Hotel" on the Island of Elba will be an important showcase for local tourism, with four hotels from four different municipalities competing for the title of best property. The episodes will focus on:

  • Hotel Airone in Portoferraio
  • Resort Capobianco in Porto Azzurro
  • Elbitat Homes in Rio
  • Hotel Barracuda in Marina di Campo

Each property will be assessed against strict criteria, including cleanliness, staff courtesy, the quality of the services offered and the now famous "topper" test for rating the bed, carried out by Bruno Barbieri himself.

The format: a contest between professionals

The "4 Hotel" format follows a tried and tested formula: the owners of the participating hotels stay in turn at their rivals’ properties, rating them according to clearly defined categories such as location, room quality, available services and value for money. After each stay, the participants exchange opinions and scores over breakfast, while the final verdict rests with Bruno Barbieri.

With his experience and his critical eye, Barbieri will examine every aspect of the welcome, from the furnishings to the attention to detail, right down to the importance of first impressions. At the end, the best hotel will be declared, but not before each property has received an overall mark, from 0 to 10, in each of the four categories.

An opportunity for Elban hospitality

The choice of the Island of Elba as the location for one of the episodes of "4 Hotel" is a recognition of the high standard of the island's accommodation.
