Trekking to discover the Island of Elba: PATRESI…. and its GREEN RAY
Patresi is a lovely little village on the sea, ideal for those who love nature, hiking and scuba diving. Located at the western end of the Island of Elba, about 10 km from Marciana, it faces directly a beautiful blue sea, with unique sunsets right in front of Corsica and Capraia.
Here it is still nature to reign supreme and the human presence is limited to few colorful houses scattered on the hills overlooking the sea. A relaxing quiet, open spaces overlooking the horizon towards the other islands and a small beautiful lighthouse that seems hung in the blue await you for a wonderful holiday.
SEA AND BEACHES
Patresi's beach consists of large stones, coarse gravel and a platform with jetty equipped with bar and beach umbrellas. The crystal clear sea and the depths are ideal for lovers of diving and snorkelling. On the right, reached by a narrow path, there is also the beach of Polveraia, small cove protected by the overhanging rocks, with dark gravel interspersed with large white stones.
SPORT AND NATURE
Behind Patresi there is the highest mountain of the Island of Elba, Mount Capanne (1019mt) which offers many hiking trails with breathtaking views. At every step you feel the scent of the Mediterranean vegetation: rosemary, juniper, heather give each visitor a world of colors and essences that will remain indelible in your memory.
Among the various paths, we recommend the Green Ray: an ancient route that winds from the Patresi beach up to the ridges of Serraventosa, on the western slope of Mount Capanne. Rediscovered and "adopted" by the Friends of Patresi and Colle d'Orano, the path is dedicated to the memory of Oreste Anselmi shepherd who lived and worked along these streets, and Roberto F. who photographed the phenomenon of the Green Ray.
But what is the Green Ray? A former Scottish legend says that those who see the Green Ray, the last glint of the sun when it sets the sea .... those will see the truth about themselves and the hearts of others. Even science studied and cataloged this rare phenomenon.
Today the original trail was also expanded with the ability to take other routes: Ring Bollero, Ring of the Madonna del Monte, Punta Polveraia ring.
