A jump back in the Middle Ages ... in San Piero the beautiful FESTIVAL OF CARACUTO
The beauty of the Island of Elba is not only in its beaches and in its breathtaking landscapes ... but also passes from its history and traditions that, year after year, are rediscovered and handed down. The results are beautiful appointments that see the small villages protagonists, made even more suggestive by the enchantment of the historical re-enactment.
An example of this rediscovery is given by the MEDIOEVAL FESTIVAL OF CARACUTO, organized for the third year by ASD Luigi Martorella of San Piero with the patronage of the municipality of Campo nell'Elba for Saturday 3 November. "Caracuto" is the ancient word elbana to indicate the holly, a plant widely present both between Marciana and Poggio that between San'Ilario and San Piero (above Marina di Campo) where the area near the Tower of San Giovanni was precisely called "Caracuto al Nibbio".
The legend tells that when the caracuto with its red berries blooms beneath the ancient tower, the transition between the real world and the fantasy world takes place. So, magically, the narrow granite streets of San Piero come alive with archers, jesters, ladies and gentlemen in costume of the time ... making us come back for a day in the Middle Ages.
From 12 o'clock and all day long, until the sunset, among striking scenes will be held parades through the streets of the town, games for children and exciting shows, with duels and challenges between the various districts to win the prize. Ample space will also be dedicated to the craft market, the old recipes and drinks to be tasted in the stands and the taverns set up for the occasion.

Every year in this, and on other occasions, the inhabitants of San Piero show all their creativity and passion for culture and traditions, working for weeks to create an event open to all, and giving both residents and tourists a moment of true magic. Don't miss it!!!
