The turtles in Marina di Campo ... one year later.

Renzo Sardi is a collaborator of Legambiente who, in 2017, for days together with many other volunteers oversaw the nest of the turtles until the hatching of the eggs.
Last year, precisely at 5 am on the 20th of June, a large sea turtle Caretta Caretta chose the beach of Marina di Campo to lay its eggs. Thanks to the report of a good night watchman (in honor of which it will be given the name of "Federica"), from that moment between the DA SERGIO and PAGLICCE BEACH establishments, right in the middle of the wide gulf, the wonderful adventure of over 100 turtles (103 to be precise), born then on horseback.
"That morning was very hot - remembers Renzo Sardi, a great fan of photonaturalism Elba for over 40 years and a Legambiente volunteer. - I had read in the local paper the discovery of at least one turtle egg on the beach and thanks to Legambiente I was able to follow, in the following weeks, the event closely. The lifeguards, at the time of the discovery, did not know how many eggs could be treated and promptly involved the experts of the Elba Aquarium and the authorities in charge. "
The experts had speculated that there could be a few dozen eggs in the nest created in the sand between the umbrellas, but in reality no one could say with any certainty how many they were. The owner of the plant has immediately secured the area and has even built a special structure to protect the eggs and "start" the neo-nates towards the water. Meanwhile, the many authorities involved (including the Port Authority, the Tuscan Archipelago National Park) have created a special team, with the help of many volunteers, who watched the site at night and during the day, waiting in the hatch some eggs.
"It has been a long wait - continues to tell Renzo - made of long nights, but also of many pleasant and competent people, united by love for the sea and its creatures."
"It would be nice if some other turtle returned ... for nature but also for the beautiful team of work and the atmosphere of collaboration that had been created. I just hope I can make better pictures ... ".
Yes, because Renzo has always had photography in his heart. He started with photos on film and now, for practical reasons, he switched to digital. He collaborates with numerous schools of the territory of every order and degree also as a guide in the naturalistic excursions organized by the G. Giusti Institute in collaboration with the PNAT and the environmental guides.
Among the many commitments, in the immediate future it is important to underline the setting up of a personal photographic exhibition entitled "IMMAGINELBA" to be held in Marina di Campo in Piazza Giovanni da Verrazzano in June on 15/16/17 from 9.00 to 24.00 . The same will be repeated on 15/16/17 July and then on 6/7/8 August. The theme of this exhibition will be small insects and recent excursions.
For me these events are not for profit (because I never sell my photos) but to spread the values of environmental protection and naturalistic photography. "
Renzo Sardi awaits you in Marina di Campo from Friday 15 June with his first exhibition of the summer of 2018.
