ELBAnewsLETTER - Also thanks to hotels, ELBA won the 2017 Cartoniadi Award

From 1st to 31th July 2017 inhabitants and tourists of the Island of Elba were invited to participate in the CARTONIADI 2017: the COMIECO Award for the best separate collection of paper and cardboard in the smaller islands. The aim was to collect more and better paper and cardboard to win the € 15,000 prize to finance works and services of collective interest. The award ceremony took place in Rome at the Ministry of the Environment, with great satisfaction of the local authorities of Elba and the Hoteliers' Association.

The protection of the islands cannot be separated from careful waste management and separate collection, especially during busy periods. The Award was an initiative aimed at sensitizing citizens and tourists on the importance of proper separate collection as a tool to defend such a delicate environment, in a period of great affluence.

"With a collection of paper and cardboard in July of 456 tons, the Island of Elba has been awarded a prize of € 15,000 that will be used to finance works, goods or services of public interest and in favor of the welfare of the collectivity ' "

"The Island of Elba has reached an increase of over 25% compared to the starting point. To this important result - commented Massimo De Ferrari, President of the Hoteliers' Association - certainly also contributed the efforts made on the island by many hotels and restaurant activities that had special containers equipped of presses to reduce the bulk of cardboard packaging. This now stimulates us to pursue the same objective also in the separate collection of glass and plastic."
