FETOVAIA: gentle relaxation or crazy for sports!
Fetovaia is one of the best known and sought after of Elba Island, located on the south-western slope, along the Costa del Sol.
Easily recognizable by the long promontory with Mediterranean scrub, that to children seems almost the tail of a crocodile, Fetovaia has a beautiful bay protected from the wind and a lovely beach in middle made of fine white sand.
One of the most romantic stories related to this bay tells that Fetovaia was in the past the preferred destination by mothers-dolphin at the time to give birth to their pups. The shallow water and mild water temperature represented, in fact, the ideal place for hatchlings. Today you can still see dolphins just off the coast, while this cove has become the ideal destination for many tourists. These very characteristics have made, in fact, Fetovaia over the years an ideal solution for families with children and for the die-hard fans of "dolce far niente".
At the same time, the proximity of the granite hills that rise to Monte Capanne, makes this location even suitable for nature lovers of hiking and mountain-biking.

Winner of 1st National Award ECO-LABEL EU in 2015, the Family Hotel boasts a great care and special attention to the host and is lovingly run by the second generation of the Palmieri family, with respect for tradition and the spirit of traditional hospitality.
Since 1971 the hotel has grown over time and today it is composed of 5 buildings built around a lovely garden, almost forming a small village, but growth has always been in tune with the environment. At the center there are exotic plants such as palms and banana trees, and a nice pool. Guests will also find cooling wooden porches under which to relax enjoying the atmosphere, accompanied by a colorful cocktails and Mediterranean scents. In the relaxation area is also lovely outdoor tub with chlorination Eco (ideal for children).
Over the years, the eco philosophy has become increasingly important going into every aspect of reception and tourist offer of the hotel's services, which has already gained recognition among the best 7 hotels Ecologici of Italy and the Oscar Ecotourism .
Nicola Palmieri, owner of the structure along with his sister Sarah, tells us that these are the awards for a process that began since the opening and continued for over 45 years, oriented to the continuous search for balance between hospitality and eco-management. So here they have reached 100% of the energy used coming from renewable sources. In addition the Hotel Montemerlo, when possible, try to use cuisine products at Km 0, even preferred to organic products but maybe coming from other countries; it produces 70-80% of hot water used by solar panels; It reaches 60-70% of the collection; It promotes energy saving and water; uses to its own garden fertilizer 100% natural .... and much more.
The conversion into eco-friendly property is a commendable way, but challenging, which has no direct financial return nor fast (just think of the higher costs in the use of all raw materials or providing services that meet the required criteria) . Of course, the market in time tends to reward those who have done this kind of choices, but behind it there is a lot of effort and work.
The guests of Hotel Montemerlo, both Italian and foreign, in fact, show that they appreciate this commitment ... and especially - tell us about the owners - it's nice to see the children so attentive and curious in respect of how and why things are done in a certain way.
