ELBAnewsLETTER - ROMs SENT AWAY FROM ELBA: it's not racism but decorum

In recent weeks, was much discussed also on national newspapers, the decision of mayors to send away some Romanian families who lived within abusive camps on grounds of health and hygiene reasons.
In this whirlwind of opinions, the Hotel Association can only express its solidarity with the first citizens who have sought to protect the dignity - and simultaneously also the safety - of a place used to welcome everyone.
Elba has a wide tradition of welcoming people, not only for tourism: people from all countries over time arrived here and now are perfectly integrated into the local fabric, which indeed in the seasonal period has often manpower needs... and is therefore far from wanting to be called "racist." Of course, cleanliness, order, security are for us all dear themes in any location, especially in a place where guests pay to come.
This decision, as discussed and controversial, has probably contributed positively to ramp up a project so far unrealized, for the installation of a camera system on the whole port area and in other strategic points of Portoferraio, in order to constantly monitor different areas and identify promptly any critical situation.
