ELBAnewsLETTER - THE ISLAND OF ELBA and the ECO-HOTELS

In recent years it is more and more increasing tourist's attention to healthy living and eating. Those who believe that we can do more to quality of eco-sustainable life seek these values even when choosing a destination for their holidays. This guests search for themselves and their family not only beautiful places with crystal clear sea and nature, but also structures that are sensitive to the waste of energy, using natural materials and organic food products, possibly at 0 km. On Elba Island this phenomenon was already anticipated since June 2003 with an agreement between Legambiente, Tuscan Archipelago National Park and the Hotel Association and promptly implemented today by 27 accommodation on the isle, the largest number in a resort place! After over thirteen years - in parallel with the growth in demand - many hotels have made of this a strong point in the presentation and promotion of their activities. And it's not by chance that the first hotel in Italy to receive the 1st Prize EU Eco-Hotel in 2015 is one hotel placed on Elba.
But what are the Eco-hotels? Are hotels or resorts that have subscribed to follow a set of guidelines for sustainable behavior with special requirements, such as decreasing waste of water and energy consumption, the use of organic products and Km 0 food, the creations of events to promote environment policies.
In addition, this project grows and expands over time, as evidenced primarily by the "Giardino Diffuso Project" (presented last year at the EXPO), thanks to which the eco hotels have adopted ancient native fruit trees that were about to disappear and gathered them all in the Orto dei Semplici in Rio that has now become a garden of memory, but also a unique scientific experiment.
Second project is the "Electric Mobility": with this project, hotel facilities undertake to use - mostly inside - electric vehicles and to offer their customers electrical bicycle and electric cars contributing to the recovery of nature trails. The project will act as a tow, with the continued commitment of the Hoteliers Association.
All these efforts of accommodation and activities of the association is perfectly framed in the concept of Elba as a holiday island with a high content of serenity and quality of life.
