1st Marathon and Half Marathon of the Island of Elba and Nordic Walking next 8th May
Next Sunday 8th May on Elba Island will take place the first edition of the Marathon and Half Marathon of the island with more than 800 partecipants, who continues to grow.
When we say that sport is good ... this is true not only for those who practice it, but also for those who host it. The example is right in front of our eyes, the first Marathon and Half Marathon of the Island of Elba, together with Acqua Rocchetta, will take on the beautiful Tuscan island a real river of participants, accompanied by family and friends. The event will start in Procchio, while the arrival with dinner and awards ceremony will be held in Marina di Campo.
"This is the first sporting event of this kind organized on the Island - tells us the President Damiano di Cicco, young marathon runner and sportman - It will be the culmination of something wonderful, in a unique and charming place, allowing an attraction that will involve a great basin from all over Italy, and the world, making it a day of sport and celebration. The history of this sport began in ancient Greece, and for millennia fascinated thousands of athletes, as can be seen during the Marathon of New York or Rome. Road racing is a sport in great expansion, new companies are born every year and always involve more enthusiasts, amateurs and spectators. On the Italian territory the most important Marathons have thousands of members in each issue. It is an event in which we start together: without distinction of any kind, at the start you are only marathoners.
Those who practice it argues that the Marathon is a love story, timeless and without end. This, built on a beautiful island as Elba, will make you fall in love with the sport itself but also of our spaces. In addition, the period is simply perfect: pleasant temperatures and a nature that gives the best of itself, sea and blue sky, the green of the hills. For fans there will be 42.195 km and 21.097 km of adrenaline and sweat, but the biggest thrill will enjoy the charming and stunning scenery along the sunshine coast. Events of this type generate in athletes and the spectators a lot of emotions and fun. The Marathon value is its ability to create strong ties with the tradition and the identity of the host territory.
To capitalize on this opportunity to stay on the Island of Elba, at the same time to the two competitive events, there will be the opportunity to be able to hike (trekking / Nordic), non-competitive among knitters scenic trails of the island. Those who wish to participate will be accompanied by a professional local guide who knows the area and places to remember ... the path will start from the same starting point of the Marathon and Half Marathon, or Procchio (in the same time the competitive), and finish in the same place of the two events, or Marina di Campo. The duration will be approximately 3h30 ', on the hilly path 10/12 km.
