MARELBA celebrates the 10th edition, promises many news and seeks further support
MARELBA - A WEEK OF SPORT IN THE SEA AND OF SOCIAL COMMITMENT - 18th - 26th June - ELBA ISLAND
This year's sports event in the sea and beach dedicated to all lovers of the sea - now in its 10th year - will be held on the Island of Elba from 18th June to 26th in various locations of the island, with many activities open to everyone and always free.

Alessandro Davini, President of Marelba Committee, former Head of the Sports Medicine Service Company USL 6, Elba region, in presenting the new logo created for the tenth anniversary, tells how the event has grown over time.
"When we started, over ten years ago, we had the goal of uniting into a single event most of the sports practiced in the sea, in order to promote Elba Island also as " race field". It certainly was a bet: we started with few people and the fear of those who start a new experience, never seen on or even out Elba. But that we were so passionate and at this point, by the tenth edition, we can really say that it was an experience was worth living."
Over the years, the organizing committee came up with the idea of extending the events - initially all based on the Beach of Ghiaie in Portoferraio - to other areas of the island, wherever there was a suitable location, and then to also widen to sports that could be practiced not only in the sea but also on the beach.
Soon then we decided not only to let "normal" people apply but to let also people with disabilities partecipate. The project "Observe playing", was the first course of mini-sub in Italy open to young people who are blind, visually impaired and sighted. All this has been facilitated by the collaboration with Scuba Diving International Association Paolo Pinto.
The following year was born the ICARUS project, a meeting on Elba Island with other Italian realities, dealing also with children with disabilities. This is a project that is still going on and that, where possible, is followed by a partnership with the host group in the place of origin. All this has contributed to the creation of a "network" between the realities in the various regions involved in the disability, with the growth of nice opportunities for everyone.
In order to continue to grow, the initiative needs an even greater effort and therefore the 2016 edition is still open to sponsors who love Elba Island, sea and young people.
